Redefining Space: RR Apartment Renovation

Introduction

Located in Paraíso, Brazil, the RR Apartment underwent a stunning renovation by flipê arquitetura and Nati Minas & Studio in 2022. With an area spanning 2153 square feet, this project reimagines space, blending original materials with innovative design concepts to create a harmonious living environment.

Design Concept

Natália Minas and Gabriela Mestriner envisioned a fluid layout that seamlessly integrates organic furniture designs throughout the apartment’s living space. Embracing the style preferences of the young couple who call this apartment home, the design prioritizes social interaction and entertainment, with the bar serving as a focal point—a dynamic space for gatherings and socializing.

Revamped Aesthetics

Reuse was a fundamental principle guiding the renovation process, leveraging the apartment’s existing features such as marble flooring and quality cabinetry. The previously dark bar underwent a remarkable transformation, incorporating organic forms and texture-rich finishes to infuse the space with warmth and visual interest.

Transformational Interventions

The social area of the apartment underwent comprehensive interventions, maintaining the original floor while introducing new textures and a rounded design ceiling. Structural changes in the bathrooms posed challenges in balancing existing elements with modern design concepts, resulting in a harmonious blend of old and new.

Balancing Elements

Achieving balance between existing architectural elements and contemporary design was a key consideration. The project juxtaposes the coldness of marble with warm textures, cleaner design aesthetics with elaborate baseboards and crown moldings, creating a cohesive yet visually intriguing interior space.

Embracing Texture

Texture plays a central role in the apartment’s design, evident in fabric choices covering the bar and rustic treatments applied to the island, countertop, and shelves. Itaúnas granite, with its unique rusticity, adds character and depth to familiar materials, transforming them into distinctive design elements.
