Pars: A Fusion of Art and Dining Experience
Pars, a multifaceted establishment initiated by artist Kristiane Kegelmann, blurs the lines between restaurant, art gallery, cafe, and pralines store in Berlin, Germany. Led by architects DMtk (Daniela Mehlich, Teresa Klestorfer) and Some Place Studio (Bika Rebek, Cameron Lintott), the project reimagines a space that seamlessly integrates culinary delights with artistic expression.
A Convergence of Functions
The architecture of Pars is a testament to refinement and minimalism, mirroring the sophistication of its culinary offerings. During the day, the space transitions seamlessly between a cafe, pralines store, and art gallery, offering patrons a diverse experience. By night, Pars transforms into a venue for special events and food pop-ups by international chefs, adding a dynamic layer to its identity.
Collaborative Design Approach
An all-female-led team of architects and lighting designers collaborated to breathe new life into the space while preserving elements of its storied past. Retaining features such as hardwood floors and decorative plaster casts from the previous tenant, the iconic Cafe Savigny, the team infused Pars with a sense of history while ushering it into the modern era.
Culinary Theater
At the heart of Pars lies an open kitchen, where food preparation becomes a spectacle for diners. The centrally located mirrored column visually connects different areas of the restaurant, offering unexpected perspectives and enhancing the overall dining experience.
Contrast in Design
The interior design of Pars plays with contrasts, juxtaposing natural elements with artificial ones and traditional motifs with contemporary aesthetics. The dining rooms feature antique-looking plaster casts from the Royal Prussian Porcelain Manufactory, juxtaposed with modern artworks by renowned artists, creating a dialogue between past and present.
A Culinary Playground
Pars embodies Berlin’s spirit of culinary experimentation, offering a space where comfort meets fine dining and minimalism coexists with texture. With its multifunctional approach and thoughtful design, Pars reflects the vibrant culinary landscape of Berlin, where innovation and tradition converge to create unforgettable dining experiences.
